A Distant Dream

Recently it’s been very rainy. This, I can deal with. In fact, I enjoy the rain. I think it’s romantic, satisfying, pacifying…Soon we will have snow, which terrifies me. I’m late, since fashion week was in September, but at times when the future seems so icy and snowy, turning to the sweetness of spring for comfort feels both natural and masochistic.

Chiffon is one of my most favorite fabrics. It is versatile. It’s soft and flowing. It moves wonderfully with the body. It will make you feel like a princess. It has made a gorgeous imprint on Spring/Summer 2011 RTW! Can you think of a sight more lovely than a bounty of airy fabrics billowing with the winds, obeying the tug and pull of the canvas, the body, that it’s on. This may be boring for boys, but it shouldn’t be! Think of the most beautiful girl you know looking the most beautiful in a beautiful dress! Or overuse of the word “beautiful”. Or think about wearing these gorgeous garments and frolicking in a garden somewhere. If there ever was a time convenient or appropriate enough to, you’d want to look the part.

I am sure that there will come a time, in the future, most likely in August, where I will bask in the summer sun again. It will be a very specific scene. I will be sitting in a chair. I will have a cup of coffee on a little table next to me, waiting for me. Except that I’ll be too busy for it because I’ll be mesmirized by the ebb and flow of the ocean.  I will hear the call of a loved one! I will get up and take it all for granted! And then. As I get up from my chair I will find myself blanched, frozen in place with the realization that a thread from my flowing dress has been caught on the wicker chair I’ve been occupying all this time. It will be a moment of utter panic.
